Water Damage Repair Wisdom: Don’t Let Frozen Pipes Dampen Your Day

2014 is off to a cold start! Over the past few weeks, we have seen some bone-chilling and extremely cold temperatures throughout the Midwest brought on by this so-called “Polar Vortex.” Here in Wisconsin, even the craziest “I can brave anything,” men were cooped up inside due to the dangers that these extreme temperatures can bring.

As the temperatures start to heat up and the ice melts from my eyelashes, I have observed a few things. First, no matter how cold it actually is, after a Polar Vortex, anything above 20º feels like summer! Even though it’s still in the 30’s, we all feel like we’re on a tropical vacation! Am I right?

The second thing I have noticed is that along with a Polar Vortex and extreme cold temperatures, comes freezing pipes, water damage and a lot of wet and flooded basements! (Scary!)

The past few weeks or so, we at ARC Restoration & Contracting have seen a huge increase in calls due to water damage to frozen pipes. Did you know that every winter, over 50 million families deal with frozen pipes? Also, did you know that even the tiniest crack, as small as an eight of an inch, can release 250 gallons of water in a single day? Yikes!

Water and frozen pipes are nothing to mess around with and can cause serious damage, and FAST! If you do not take proper action when dealing with a water loss you could see thousands of dollars of damages occur within hours. Even worse, mold and mildew can start to accumulate within just 72 hours!

Now that we’ve got you shaking in your rain boots, we want to help! We want all of you to be prepared and ready for when water strikes.

Don’t let frozen pipes or a water damage repair needs dampen your day, or your house! Follow these simple tips, tricks and steps and be prepared.
